South Kitsap School District has made the difficult decision to suspend transportation from the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club and other childcare programs for the 2021/22 school year.
SKSD is anticipating significant bus driver shortages which impacts the ability to provide transportation services outside of our obligated home to school service. In addition, busing students from different schools on the same bus exposes all riders unnecessarily to different student cohort groups and increases the risk of COVID-19 exposure. This could create contact tracing issues if there is an exposure involving a rider on the bus.
Public School Districts are not required to provide transportation for services outside of home-school service, nor do they receive funding from the state. For these reasons, South Kitsap School District will not provide school bus transportation from childcare facilities for the 2021/22 school year. We regret any inconvenience or hardship this may cause for South Kitsap families.
