Principal's Corner

Greetings Sunnyslope Families,

As the Principal of Sunnyslope Elementary School, it is my sincere pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.  Our entire staff looks forward to working in partnership with you in making this year and future years positive, engaging and successful for all of our children.  We are preparing for our ever growing student population, based on the extensive home development in the area.  We welcome you!

Thank you for all you have done to prepare your child for their transition.  Whether it is a new grade level/teacher, new school, or first time attending school, your conversations at home about what to expect, how it is going, and encouragement for the days ahead make a big difference.  I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher in this same way.  Open, two-way communication is a key to our success in educating each of our Superstars.  We value you as partners in their education and honor you as their first teacher!

Welcome to our new families, staff and community members.  Feel free to visit our school and experience the pride, the professionalism, and the culture that make Sunnyslope truly an extraordinary place!  Our efforts are bolstered by our numerous community volunteers.  Please consider volunteering and joining our PTA, an active Parent-Teacher Association that is dedicated to supporting our students.

We will continue to focus on science and art integration this year.  Educating the whole child is a top priority for us at Sunnyslope.  We have seen high levels of student engagement through our new curriculum, Project Lead the Way-Launch.  This is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Curriculum that will support students in developing college and career ready skills.  This includes being problem solvers, critical thinkers, effective writers, and inquisitive learners.  A few of the new units we will explore this year include Pushes and Pulls, Human Brain, and Material Science.

We are excited to partner with Anchored for Life, the Trevor Romain Transition and Resiliency Program this year.  With over 130 students with active duty parents, this is a fantastic opportunity to provide targeted positive support and encouragement through the many unique challenges our military families face.  This program will focus on developing student leadership skills, enhance coping skills, build confidence, reinforce team building and offer support.

I value your thoughts, insights, and encouragement throughout the year to improve our school.  Let’s make it a terrific year together!

Warmest regards,

Lisa Fundane’t
